BIOGRAPHY
Owen Rohu was born in Dublin in 1966 and studied Visual Communications, majoring in Illustration, at the Dublin College of Marketing & Design. Following graduation in 1990, he joined Animation Company Murakami Wolf to work as an Animation Background Artist. In 1994 he was recruited by Don Bluth Studios in Dublin, rising to the position of Key Background Artist/Trainer. In 1996 he accepted a position at Fox Animation Studios in Phoenix, Arizona. Inspired by Arizona’s thriving art scene, Owen began painting with oils during his free time and enrolled in part time classes at Scottsdale Art School. Eager to see more of the world, Owen & his wife moved to Australia to take up a contract with Walt Disney Studios in Sydney. Owen continued his development as a painter during this period, exhibiting in Sydney.
Owen returned to Ireland in 2002, settling in Westport, County Mayo. In the same year he joined Oisin Gallery in Dublin. He staged his first one-man show in 2006, with all works selling prior to the preview. This was followed by the sell out success of his second one-man show in early 2008. In 2010 he joined Gormley’s Fine Art where his work is predominantly exhibited. He has featured in numerous collective and feature exhibitions throughout Ireland. Interest in his work has increased significantly over the years, and has attracted the attention of collectors in the United Kingdom, America, and as far as Australia.
